Measured mile

A method of assessing productivity loss by comparing affected work with a suitably comparable period or area of less affected work.

Further detail

Read this alongside SCL Delay and Disruption Protocol.

A measured-mile assessment uses the project’s own productivity records where a sound comparison is available. The compared work should be sufficiently similar in scope, method, resources and conditions. Explain adjustments for differences and limitations in the records. A favourable week selected without checking comparability can overstate the result.

Record why the comparison period was chosen and test alternative explanations. The records and evidence guide explains how to keep the assessment traceable. Our Delay and disruption cost recovery can help assess the commercial claim using the available productivity and cost records.
