The answer
Where an application needs a programming expert, the file is ready for one. We start from your subcontract. On one page we set out the completion dates and any sections, and the events that extend your time. For each, we note the notice it needs: when, what it must say and who gets it. The page also covers the particulars and updates that must follow, and the damages terms. We then set up a delay register, and notice and particulars templates in your subcontract's own terms. Your site team gets a short trigger list, the events to watch for, so it can spot a delay the day it happens. Alongside go the records an extension application rests on: when access was given, when information arrived and what your team could not do. We prove the routine on a real delay event, or on your next month on site if none comes up, before we hand it over. From then on, your people send the notices in your name.

The facts
A drylining subcontractor on a hospital job asks whether Delay Damages Prevention will tell it how many weeks it is owed for late access to the ceiling voids.
What happens
- The subcontract's completion dates, notice and particulars periods and damages terms go onto one page.
- The delay register, the notice and particulars templates and the site lead's trigger list are set up.
- The late access is notified that week. The particulars follow within the period, with the access dates and the work the gang could not do.
- The main contractor disputes the length of the extension, and the subcontractor instructs a programming expert.
The outcome
The expert starts from notices sent in time and records made as the delay happened, not from a file rebuilt after the event.
