Build the cost part of a compensation event quotation with clear records, assumptions and a separate calculation of the Fee.

by Jack Butler-Kettle · About 4 min readShare

How to use it

First identify the NEC form, edition, main option and amendments. The applicable cost components, Fee and assessment rules come from that contract.

This worksheet covers cost. Your quotation may also need programme changes, effects on completion or key dates, and stated assumptions.

Compensation event quotation cover

Attach the priced cost worksheet and programme assessment requested by the instruction. Verify the cost and Fee basis against the actual contract.

Quotation Q-02 for compensation event CE-02

In response to quotation instruction QI-02, we submit Q-02 for the Level 1 access event. The proposed cost is £6,600 excluding VAT: 100 labour hours at £40 and 10 plant days at £200, plus a 10% Fee of £600.

The accompanying programme comparison P-02/P-03 proposes a two-day completion adjustment. The time assessment, mitigation and other causes require review; the cost total alone does not establish that adjustment.

Assumptions: the listed resources and durations are forecast for the defined event; no duplicated recovery is included elsewhere. Attachments: CE-02 cost worksheet, programme comparison and assumptions record. The quotation is submitted for assessment and is not recorded as implemented.

Understanding your results

Reconcile the quotation with the event, assumptions, programme effects and applicable contract rules. Check the cost basis and fee treatment before submission. The workbook organises your assessment; it does not decide whether the event qualifies or whether the quotation is accepted.

How it works

  • Record the event reference, contractual assessment date and the instruction requesting a quotation. Check the applicable submission deadline.
  • Separate actual and forecast costs using the dividing date where your contract requires it. State the source and basis of each quantity.
  • Use only applicable cost components and Fee percentages. Record an explicit zero Fee where appropriate; a blank means the input remains unresolved.
  • Include evidenced omissions or savings as negative quantities. Check overlap with the original scope and other events.
  • Attach the programme assessment and explain risk allowances and assumptions separately. Keep the submitted version and proof of service.

The fictional example combines £4,000 labour and £2,000 plant at an assumed 10% Fee, giving £6,600. The assumption must be replaced with your contractual percentage.

Our Change valuation and compensation-event quotations service can prepare the ordinary quotation and supporting cost records. An NEC compensation event recovery examines a disputed event or assessment.
