Mine development and infrastructure

Quantity surveying and claims support for mine development, access construction and associated infrastructure.

Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Mine development can include site preparation, access roads, shafts, portals, utilities and associated civil structures. Further construction may support tailings facilities, rehabilitation or closure. These are different stages of the asset’s life, but each needs defined quantities, work boundaries and a clear separation from extraction and other operational activities.

Remote infrastructure before mine construction

The Challenge

The mine construction team may need a road, camp, power and water before it can work effectively. Late enabling infrastructure can keep temporary provision running far beyond its allowance.

Our approach

We separate those enabling commitments from the permanent works and identify which package depends on each release. If temporary provision continues, the account records its actual use, duration and instruction. This makes the extension assessable without assuming that every camp or generator cost belongs to the delayed infrastructure contractor.

Earthworks and haul-road quantities

The Challenge

Mine infrastructure can involve extensive cut, fill and haul routes across variable ground. Changes to levels or material suitability can alter both quantities and transport distances.

Our approach

We reconcile survey quantities and material suitability with the priced haul assumptions, checking transport and road-maintenance allowances as well as excavation.

Construction access within an operating mine

The Challenge

A changed blasting or haulage plan can fragment construction access. A team that expected a continuous workfront may instead have short releases in several areas, with repeated setup between them.

Our approach

We document the operating constraints included in the price and compare them with actual releases. Disruption assessments focus on affected activities and resources, distinguishing changed access from ordinary mine-site conditions.

Water and power infrastructure crossing packages

The Challenge

Water supply, dewatering, power distribution and treatment may be procured separately from roads and buildings. Temporary connections or additional capacity can fall outside each contractor's assumed boundary.

Our approach

We allocate the utility connections and commissioning attendances across the packages before award. Shared temporary provision is reconciled once, rather than appearing as a separate full allowance in several accounts.
