Gas networks

Quantity surveying and claims support for gas distribution construction, diversions and network connections.

Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Gas network packages may include pipe routes, crossings, pressure-control installations and reinstatement. Work around existing assets needs defined construction interfaces and access arrangements. The account should distinguish new installation, diversion work and asset-owner activities.

Replacement mains and individual service transfers

The Challenge

Laying the replacement main is not the end of the street. Individual property transfers can require separate appointments and return visits.

Our approach

We compare the main-laying and service-transfer scope with the access arrangements included in the rates. Address-level records show which visits were productive, which failed and why. This supports genuine additional attendance while avoiding a blanket return-visit charge for transfers already included in the original order.

Live-network interfaces and isolation windows

The Challenge

Connections, pressure changes and isolations are controlled around the operating gas network. A moved window can delay specialist crews while excavations and traffic measures remain in place.

Our approach

We assess the effect of a changed isolation window on the crews, open excavations and traffic measures actually retained, against the agreed readiness obligations.

Unrecorded services and changed excavation methods

The Challenge

An unexpected asset or congested service route can prevent the method priced. Switching from insertion to a different construction approach may change spoil, excavation and reinstatement as well as pipework.

Our approach

We compare the priced method and survey information with the technical instruction. The valuation separates changed quantities and justified method costs, with credits where original work is omitted.

Temporary surfaces and final reinstatement

The Challenge

A street may be reopened temporarily before all connections are complete. Repeated reinstatement, wider surface repairs and delayed final surfacing can produce disagreement over what the original rates covered.

Our approach

We check temporary and permanent reinstatement separately by location. Completion records and highway instructions help establish whether wider repairs or repeated surfacing are an additional requirement, unfinished original work or rectification. The applicable rate should reflect that distinction.
