Dams and reservoirs

Quantity surveying and claims support for reservoir construction, dam works and associated infrastructure.

Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Reservoir and dam projects can include earthworks, concrete structures, outlets, access and connections to the wider water system. New construction and upgrades may be split into several civil and mechanical packages. The quantities and assumptions behind excavation, fill, disposal and temporary water management need to remain clear.

Drawdown, diversion and temporary water control

The Challenge

Spillway or outlet work may depend on lowered water levels, cofferdams and controlled flows. A changed sequence or inflow condition can extend pumping and temporary protection while permanent work remains incomplete.

Our approach

We establish the drawdown and temporary water-control arrangements included in the price, using the qualified engineer's required sequence. Pumping records, water levels and instructions then show what extended or changed those arrangements. The cost of keeping a cofferdam or pump in service needs to be distinguished from a change to the permanent spillway work, and the contract still determines who carries that cost.

Conditions beneath spillways and existing structures

The Challenge

The repair extent may only become clear when a spillway is opened up and inspected. Voids or deteriorated concrete can turn a local repair into a larger instructed operation.

Our approach

We retain the investigation baseline and measure the work instructed following technical findings. The account distinguishes additional repairs, changed quantities and original obligations, supported by location-specific records.

Gates, outlets and civil-work interfaces

The Challenge

Replacement gates, valves and outlet equipment need to match existing geometry and operating arrangements. Late manufacturer information can affect embedded items, lifting access and concrete modifications.

Our approach

We reconcile the gate or valve order with the existing geometry and civil package, including embedded items, lifting and installation attendance.

Safety-related stages and evidence for completion

The Challenge

An inspection or release stage can control when water levels or operations change. Missing records can therefore hold up completion even when the physical repair appears finished.

Our approach

We make the required evidence visible in the commercial programme and assess additional attendance by cause. The appointed qualified engineers retain responsibility for reservoir-safety decisions.
