Nuclear

Quantity surveying and claims support for agreed construction packages on nuclear projects.

Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Nuclear projects can involve new construction, asset modifications and decommissioning-related works. Packages operate within defined site, quality and information requirements. Commercial scope must identify the construction work covered by the appointment and the evidence required for its valuation.

Quality records tied to manufacturing and payment

The Challenge

An item can be physically manufactured but not ready for release if its inspection records and lifetime documentation are incomplete.

Our approach

We establish the evidence required at each commercial milestone and compare it with the approved quality plan and actual records. This makes the payment position clearer: achieved manufacture, missing original documentation and newly requested evidence should not be treated as the same thing. Technical acceptance remains with the responsible assurance team.

Hold points and witness attendance

The Challenge

Work may be unable to proceed until a defined inspection or hold point is released. Late readiness, unavailable witnesses or changed inspection requirements can interrupt specialist manufacture or site installation.

Our approach

We compare readiness notices, witness arrangements and hold-point releases with the priced obligations. The assessment focuses on the cause and resource effect of the interruption, not on treating safety assurance as optional.

Design configuration changes after commitment

The Challenge

Controlled design revisions can reach components already fabricated or embedded. If the commercial record does not identify the revision on which the order was based, instructed change can become confused with correction of non-compliant work.

Our approach

We establish which design revision formed the commercial commitment and track authorised changes through the affected packages. The valuation separates instructed redesign and additional work from correction of non-compliant work.

Dense civil and mechanical interfaces

The Challenge

Embedded plates, penetrations and equipment supports may need to be completed long before mechanical installation. A missed or revised interface can require difficult alterations in a congested, controlled work area.

Our approach

We follow each interface change through the actual alteration sequence, including access and work already completed. Measurements and instructions support the valuation across the affected packages.

Long manufacture followed by preservation on site

The Challenge

Large components may be paid for through manufacturing milestones and delivered well before installation. Delays can extend storage, preservation and inspection obligations across different supply and works contracts.

Our approach

We check the custody, preservation and inspection responsibilities in both the supply and works orders. A longer storage period may create additional cost, but it may also sit within an existing allowance or supplier obligation. The assessment reconciles the actual period, instructions and records before recommending what belongs in the account.
