Energy storage

Quantity surveying and claims support for battery storage construction, equipment installation and associated site works.

Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Battery storage construction includes the equipment layout, foundations, access, drainage, containment and connections needed to bring the site together. Equipment can be ordered before substantial site work takes place. The account therefore needs to distinguish supply commitments and delivery milestones from the value of construction actually completed.

Battery supply outside the balance-of-plant package

The Challenge

A battery-container order may stop at delivery. The balance-of-plant contractor may have excluded unloading, connections or test support on the assumption that the supplier would provide them.

Our approach

We reconcile the supplier's scope with the civil and electrical packages, including attendances and delivery conditions. Later changes are valued against that division of work, with duplicate allowances removed.

Layout changes after equipment selection

The Challenge

The selected storage system and approved fire strategy can alter container spacing, access, drainage and cable lengths. A site layout priced before these decisions may no longer represent the required construction.

Our approach

We retain the layout and assumptions used for pricing, then measure the approved revision across foundations, roads, drainage and cables. Moving containers further apart, for example, can change several quantities without changing the number of batteries. The technical specialists determine the required arrangement; our assessment shows its complete construction cost, including any work that can now be omitted.

Stored equipment awaiting energisation

The Challenge

Delivered batteries can incur storage and preservation costs while the grid connection is still outstanding.

Our approach

We compare the equipment payment dates with connection readiness and check who carries custody and preservation responsibilities. Any extra is tested against the actual storage period and the allowances already in the orders.

Testing the complete storage installation

The Challenge

Equipment tests, site controls and network acceptance may be delivered by different parties. Missing integration or repeat testing can create disputes over completion and whether additional specialist visits are included.

Our approach

We clarify who provides integration, witnessing and repeat attendance. Test records then distinguish an unavailable interface from work needed to complete the original installation.
