Retail

Quantity surveying and claims support for shops, retail developments and store construction programmes.

Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Retail projects range from individual shops to larger developments with shared areas and services. Construction may involve new premises, a store refit or phased work around trading. Landlord works, the retailer’s fit-out and directly supplied equipment need to meet without gaps.

Trading dates and restricted mall access

The Challenge

A late unit release can remove days from the shopfitting programme without moving the trading date.

Our approach

We record the landlord's access commitments and the working hours included in the price. If recovery is needed, we compare additional shifts, changed deliveries and other proposed measures before agreement where practicable. Clear instructions and cost records help distinguish an agreed acceleration measure from overtime the contractor would have needed for another reason.

Shopfront and landlord approval changes

The Challenge

Shopfronts, signage and ventilation routes may need landlord approval after the retailer has settled its concept. Revised details can affect fabrication, services and finishes already ordered.

Our approach

We compare the tendered and approved details with the status of the affected orders. Redesign, cancellation and installation costs are identified separately, including credits for superseded work.

Retailer-supplied fixtures and equipment

The Challenge

Retailer-purchased refrigeration, display systems or security equipment can arrive with requirements that the shopfitter has not priced: power, drainage, lifting, fixings or testing. The equipment order may cover supply only, while the fit-out order assumes those items arrive ready to use.

Our approach

We reconcile both scopes before installation and identify the missing attendances. Later extras are checked against that allocation, with duplicated allowances credited.
