# Airports

Quantity surveying and claims support for terminal, landside and associated airport construction packages.

## Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Airport construction can involve terminal alterations, access works and associated facilities while operations continue. Work areas, deliveries and handovers may need to follow agreed phases. The package needs to identify the permanent works, temporary arrangements and interfaces with systems or activities managed by others.

### Night working and daily airfield handback

#### The Challenge

Airfield work has to be handed back on time, even when access started late. Losing part of a night can leave too little time to complete the planned area and require another mobilisation.

#### Our approach

We compare the allowed working window with the actual release, setup, productive work and handback times. That detail helps explain whether another shift was caused by lost access, changed work or the contractor's own performance. Plant and shift records then provide a basis for assessing the additional cost.

### Airside access, security and deliveries

#### The Challenge

Personnel passes, escorts and controlled vehicle routes can limit how materials and crews reach the work. Changed access arrangements may affect productivity even where the construction scope is unchanged.

#### Our approach

We make the priced passes, escorts and delivery arrangements explicit, then assess the effect of any documented change.

### Airfield lighting and civil-work interfaces

#### The Challenge

Finished pavement may have to be reopened when lighting positions or duct connections change. The electrical variation and the pavement reinstatement are part of the same event, even if different contractors submit them.

#### Our approach

We reconcile the package scopes and required sequence before construction. Changes are assessed across pavement, electrical and testing work, including omissions and the cause of any rework.

### Terminal systems and operational readiness

#### The Challenge

Baggage, security, passenger systems and building services must operate together. A physically complete terminal area can still need integrated tests and temporary arrangements before it opens.

#### Our approach

We examine the milestone requirements across the baggage, security, passenger and building-services packages. A completed building area and an operationally ready terminal are not interchangeable. The commercial review identifies which tests and temporary arrangements were included, then uses the readiness record to assess additional attendance or disputed payment.

### Pavement condition discovered during removal

#### The Challenge

Planing or excavation can reveal pavement layers and services that differ from the survey assumptions. In a short airfield window, additional treatment can affect both quantities and the next handback.

#### Our approach

We measure the instructed additional treatment against the tender baseline. Any claimed extra shift or recovery measure is assessed separately from the permanent pavement quantity.
