# Waste and recycling

Quantity surveying and claims support for recycling centres, materials recovery and waste-processing facilities.

## Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Waste and recycling construction combines reception, storage and handling areas with process equipment and associated infrastructure. Civil works, buildings and installation may be separately procured. The account needs to distinguish the facility’s construction from its operating activities.

### Sorting equipment and building interfaces

#### The Challenge

Moving a sorting line can change pits, supports and maintenance access after the building contractor has committed the civils.

#### Our approach

We compare vendor data with the priced building and installation packages. The valuation follows each affected interface, separating additional construction, omitted work and substantiated alterations.

### Firewater, containment and drainage scope

#### The Challenge

Storage arrangements and the materials handled can influence firewater, drainage and containment requirements. Changes issued by the responsible specialists may affect external works as well as the processing building.

#### Our approach

We check the specialist requirements against the actual storage and processing arrangement used for pricing. A revision may affect tanks, drainage, external works and controls as well as the building itself. The valuation follows those connected changes and credits superseded allowances; the responsible technical team determines what protection is required.

### Testing with an agreed waste stream

#### The Challenge

The trial waste stream matters. Different contamination or unavailable feed can make an acceptance trial unrepresentative of the agreed test.

#### Our approach

We compare the recorded input and test conditions with the contract, distinguishing supplier obligations from changed inputs and additional trials.

### Installation while the facility keeps receiving waste

#### The Challenge

A live facility may need temporary storage, diverted vehicle routes and phased processing capacity. Changed releases can add material handling, temporary works and repeated mobilisation.

#### Our approach

We identify the temporary storage and vehicle arrangements already allowed for, then assess actual departures from the agreed releases. Extra handling remains separate from permanent construction quantities so it can be checked on its own evidence.
