# Pipelines and associated works

Quantity surveying and claims support for pipeline construction, connections and supporting infrastructure.

## Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Pipeline projects can extend over multiple work sections with different access, excavation and reinstatement requirements. The package may include crossings, connections and associated structures as well as installation. A clear commercial account follows those sections and distinguishes the original route and quantities from subsequent revisions.

### Route access and crossing changes

#### The Challenge

Land access, road or river crossings and revised alignments can interrupt a continuous pipeline spread. A change may affect temporary roads, welding sequence and reinstatement as well as pipe length.

#### Our approach

We compare the planned route releases with the sections actually available to the pipeline spread. A blocked crossing can affect haul roads, welding and reinstatement as well as pipe length. The valuation separates the physical revision from evidenced extra mobilisation or temporary works, so the same interruption is not charged through several overlapping headings.

### Weld testing, repairs and traceability

#### The Challenge

Repairing a rejected weld and carrying out newly instructed inspection are different commercial events.

#### Our approach

We check the original testing and traceability scope, the findings and any revised instruction. Additional attendance is assessed separately from the cost of rectifying non-compliant work.

### Hydrotesting and commissioning sections

#### The Challenge

A pipeline test section needs water, completed tie-ins and an agreed discharge arrangement. If one is unavailable, temporary heads, refilling or test equipment may be needed again.

#### Our approach

We identify the priced test boundaries and responsibilities, then reconcile the actual sequence. Additional testing and temporary works are assessed against the cause and the original allowances.

### Ground conditions and reinstatement obligations

#### The Challenge

Rock, groundwater or unsuitable backfill can change trench construction and spoil handling. Agricultural land and sensitive crossings may also carry specific restoration requirements.

#### Our approach

We assess the encountered ground and instructed response against the tender baseline, then measure treatment, imported backfill and restoration separately. Land-specific reinstatement commitments are checked alongside the excavation rates.
