# Shipyards and dry docks

Quantity surveying and claims support for shipyard facilities, dry docks and associated marine construction.

## Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Shipyard projects combine dock structures and waterfront access with workshops, utilities and operational areas. New works and refurbishment can interface with lifting equipment and separately supplied installations. The package needs clear boundaries between facility construction and vessel-related operations.

### Dock gates, pumps and civil structures

#### The Challenge

A dry dock's gates, seals and dewatering systems must work with its concrete structure and service routes. Revised equipment details or unexpected existing geometry can create changes across several packages.

#### Our approach

We reconcile the dock survey and supplier data with the civil and installation packages. A revised gate or seal detail can alter concrete, connections and the installation method together. The change record needs to identify that chain, while distinguishing a new requirement from correcting work that did not meet the original specification.

### Construction fitted around vessel bookings

#### The Challenge

The next vessel booking can set a hard return-to-service date. A shorter work period may require temporary services or phased completion rather than the original continuous programme.

#### Our approach

We record the operational release dates and the scope required for each handover. Instructed recovery measures and additional attendance are costed separately, keeping outstanding permanent works visible.

### Heavy-lift equipment and dockside services

#### The Challenge

Crane rails, lifting systems and shore services can impose specific loads, tolerances and connection requirements. Late vendor information may alter foundations and service trenches already constructed.

#### Our approach

We compare the crane or lifting-system order with the foundations and shore-service scope, then assess the complete instructed change rather than only the equipment item.

### Testing a complete dock rather than separate assets

#### The Challenge

A successful pump test does not prove that the dock's complete dewatering and gate arrangement is ready for use.

#### Our approach

We identify the integrated test, witness and documentation requirements at the commercial milestones. Readiness and test records then help establish why another attendance was necessary and whether it was included, rectification or an additional requirement.
