# Power generation

Quantity surveying and claims support for power-station construction and generation facility upgrades.

## Commercial challenges and how we approach them

Generation facilities combine civil structures, buildings and services with major equipment packages. Construction and equipment supply may progress under separate appointments. The account needs to distinguish foundations, installation, connections and the work included in completion milestones. Thermal, biomass and geothermal projects can use different generation technologies while still requiring a clear account of the buildings, civil works, equipment supports and connections.

### Turbine and generator information driving civils

#### The Challenge

The foundation package may be committed before final turbine loads or maintenance clearances arrive. Late vendor data can therefore affect concrete already placed.

#### Our approach

We identify the information and allowances on which the civil order was based. Each revision is followed through the structure, embedded items and services, separating additional work from omitted provisions and recording any work that could not be reused. That gives the change a traceable basis instead of a general claim for late information.

### Plant delivery and heavy-lift readiness

#### The Challenge

A major component's delivery date may depend on transport permits, crane availability and completed access. A mismatch can leave expensive lifting resources waiting or equipment stored away from the installation point.

#### Our approach

We check the actual transport and crane bookings, the readiness obligation and the steps available to reduce standby or storage. Only then can the additional cost be assessed properly.

### Commissioning dependent on fuel, water and grid access

#### The Challenge

Mechanical completion does not guarantee fuel, cooling water or grid access. A missing test input can leave the commissioning team on site with little productive work available.

#### Our approach

We make the commercial dependencies and included test attendance explicit. Where commissioning slips, we connect instructions, readiness records and resources to the claimed cost, distinguishing construction obligations from external dependencies.

### Performance tests and acceptance payments

#### The Challenge

Output and efficiency tests may depend on specified operating conditions and agreed equipment boundaries. Disagreement over those conditions or repeat tests can hold up acceptance and the associated payment.

#### Our approach

We review the agreed test conditions and payment trigger with the technical team. If a test must be repeated, its findings help distinguish a defect from an unavailable input or changed requirement. The resulting attendance, outstanding work and disputed deductions are then assessed on their own contractual basis.
