## What it means in practice

A time-bar provision can make compliance with a stated deadline a condition of an entitlement. Its trigger, required content, service method and exceptions depend on the wording and applicable law. A contractual notice deadline is different from a statutory limitation period.

Locate the exact clause and preserve the chronology. A [post-signing contract review](<https://www.quantsurv.com/contract-review/services/post-signing-contract-review>) can help identify obligations, with urgent legal advice where an entitlement is disputed.

## Worked example

### The facts

A subcontractor is told that a change claim was notified too late.

### What happens

1. It identifies the event that starts the contractual clock and the wording of any exception.

2. It compares the required notice with the documents actually sent and their delivery records.

### What this shows

The deadline objection is assessed against the facts and clause rather than accepted or dismissed on a general rule.
