## What it means in practice

Read this alongside [section 110 of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996](<https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1996/53/section/110>) and [section 111 of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996](<https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1996/53/section/111n1>) and [section 112 of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996](<https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1996/53/section/112>).

The final date for payment is distinct from the due date used within the payment mechanism. It is the deadline for paying the relevant sum. Missing it may engage contractual or statutory remedies, but interest and suspension each have their own conditions and should not be assumed automatic.

Reconstruct the relevant cycle and notices before acting. [Late payment recovery](<https://www.quantsurv.com/not-paid/services/late-payment-recovery>) can help distinguish an overdue payment from a valuation or notice dispute.

## Worked example

### The facts

An example payment becomes due on 1 June and has an agreed final date of 15 June.

### What happens

1. The subcontractor checks the relevant notices and sum payable.

2. When payment is missing after 15 June, it considers the available remedies and their conditions.

### What this shows

The two dates serve different purposes; a remedy must be assessed against the correct date and applicable rules.
