# Schedule of rates (SOR)

A list of rates for types of work, without firm quantities, used to price and value work as it is measured.

## Further detail

Read this alongside [NRM 2: Detailed measurement for building works](<https://www.rics.org/content/dam/ricsglobal/documents/standards/NRM-2_Oct2022_Update.pdf>).

A schedule of rates provides prices for defined units of work. The descriptions, measurement rules and included allowances determine how a rate is used. A rate for one specification or working condition may not be appropriate for a materially different item.

Retain the agreed descriptions as well as the numbers. Our [Quantity take-off and bill of quantities preparation](<https://www.quantsurv.com/quantity-surveying?service=%2Fquantity-surveying%2Fmeasurement-bills-of-quantities#client-types>) service defines the measurement basis; our [Change valuation and compensation-event quotations](<https://www.quantsurv.com/quantity-surveying?service=%2Fquantity-surveying%2Fvariations-compensation-events#client-types>) service connects changed quantities with the applicable valuation rules.
